This policy explains what Read to You collects, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We collect only what we need to run audio editions for publishers and readers. We do not sell personal data.
We use this data to run your account, check your business before publishing, collect fees, pay out revenue, and contact you about the Service.
Readers do not need an account. The first time you open an issue, your browser creates a random identifier that is stored on your device. It is not linked to your name. We use it to remember what you have bought and to count usage. On that identifier we record these events: opening an issue, opening an article, tapping Listen, starting audio and starting checkout. Publishers see totals from these events for their own issues. Visits by the publisher's own team are not counted. We do not use third-party analytics, advertising trackers or tracking cookies.
Stripe processes payments. Card details go straight to Stripe and never reach us. From Stripe we receive and store your email address, the amount, the currency, the plan and a payment reference, so we can give you access and keep accounting records. Stripe's own privacy policy covers how Stripe uses your data.
Uploaded PDFs, page images and generated narration audio are stored privately with our hosting and Google Cloud storage providers. They are not publicly listed. Readers reach audio through short-lived links. Our processor runs on Google Cloud to split pages and detect articles. Narration is produced with Google Cloud Text-to-Speech and Google Gemini text-to-speech models. Article text is sent to these services only to generate audio. We do not use your content to train AI models. Google processes the data under its cloud service terms.
We use browser local storage, not advertising cookies, to keep:
Clearing your browser storage removes them. If you clear it, any purchases you made in that browser may no longer appear on that device.
We share data only with the providers that help us run Read to You: our hosting and database provider, Google Cloud (storage, processing and narration), and Stripe (payments). We may also disclose data if the law requires it.
We keep account, publication and issue data while your account is active. Payment records are kept as long as tax and accounting laws require. Reader usage events and purchase records are kept so that purchased access keeps working. To ask us to delete your account, your content, or reader data linked to your email address, contact us. We will delete or anonymize it unless we have to keep it by law.
Data is encrypted in transit. Each publisher's data is kept separate, with access controls enforced in the database. Files are kept in private storage, and paid audio is checked on our servers before it is delivered. Payment confirmations from Stripe are signature-checked. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data.
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or California privacy law), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or limit how we process it, and to complain to a data protection authority. To use these rights, email us. We will not treat you differently for doing so.
The Service is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
We will post any updates here. Privacy questions or requests: legal@presslisten.store.
