These Terms govern your use of Read to You (the "Service"), which turns printed newspapers and magazines into audio editions that readers open from a QR code. "Publisher" means a business that creates a publisher account. "Reader" means anyone who opens an issue. By creating an account, uploading content or making a purchase, you agree to these Terms.
Publishers must give accurate business details, including the legal entity that owns the publication and receives payouts. We may review those details before an issue can go live. You are responsible for your login details and for everything done in your account, including by team members you authorize. Only people authorized by the publisher may use its account.
Publishers keep all ownership of the PDFs, articles, images, titles and other material they upload ("Publisher Content"). Read to You does not claim ownership of Publisher Content.
You confirm that you own or have every right, license and permission needed to upload Publisher Content and to let us process it, turn it into narration and deliver it to readers. This includes rights from writers, photographers, advertisers and other contributors. Your content must not infringe anyone's rights or break any law.
You give Read to You a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, process, analyze page layouts, convert, translate where you request it, narrate and deliver Publisher Content. We use this license only to provide the Service to you and your readers. The license ends when the content is deleted, except for copies in routine backups until they expire and anything the law requires us to keep. We do not use Publisher Content to train AI models.
Audio editions are produced with automated text-to-speech and AI voice technology, including Google Cloud services. It is not read by a human. Narration may mispronounce words, misread text or pick up layout errors. Publishers review the detected articles before publishing and are responsible for what they publish. Where narration is not yet available, the reader may use the voice built into the device's browser.
Every issue gets a permanent QR code and reader link when it is created, so they can go into print. We will not change the link of an existing issue. Readers can only reach an issue once the publisher publishes it, and it stops being available if the publisher unpublishes it, the account ends, or we remove it under these Terms.
We work to keep the Service available, but it may be interrupted by maintenance, outages or third-party providers. We may change or stop features. Processing times and page-layout detection results may vary.
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or close an account, or remove content, if we reasonably believe these Terms or the law have been broken, if payment fails, or to protect readers, publishers or the Service. Sections 2, 4 (for remaining copies), 11, 12 and 13 still apply after termination.
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that narration or article detection is accurate.
To the extent the law allows, Read to You is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amounts you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US$100, whichever is greater. Publishers will indemnify Read to You against claims arising from Publisher Content or from breaking Section 3.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes go to the state or federal courts in Delaware, unless your local consumer protection law gives you the right to bring a claim where you live. Before filing a claim, please contact us so we can try to resolve it informally.
We may update these Terms. If a change is significant, we will notify publishers before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated Terms.
