Optional add-on

Translated audio editions

A translated audio edition lets readers listen to your issue in another language. It is an optional add-on to an issue: your original text and narration stay exactly as they are, and each added language gets its own translated text and its own narration.

At a glance

  • Price: $40 per additional language, per issue.
  • Current languages: English, Spanish, French, German and Russian.
  • Original article text and original narration are preserved, never overwritten.
  • Each language has its own translated titles, article text and narration.
  • Readers use the same issue page and QR code, and switch between Original and available languages.
  • Only languages that are purchased and fully completed are shown to readers.

Who it is for

Bilingual communities, immigrant communities and regional publishers whose readers speak more than one language. It also helps papers that want to reach readers who follow local news more comfortably in another language.

How it works

After your final PDF has been processed and your articles are approved, you choose one or more additional languages for the issue and pay $40 for each. Only approved articles are translated. Article structure and titles are kept, so readers find the same stories in the same places.

Each translated article is narrated separately in its language using the same professional narration setup as the original edition. Translated text and audio are stored as separate versions of the issue alongside the original.

What readers see

Readers scan the same printed QR code and arrive at the same issue page. When a translated edition is ready, a language switch shows Original and each completed language. Choosing a language changes both the article text and the audio.

A language does not appear to readers until it has been purchased for that issue and every approved article has finished. Reader access rules are the same as for the original edition.

When you edit an article later

If an original article changes after it has been translated, its translation is marked as needing an update rather than silently changed. You decide when to update it. Unchanged articles are not translated or narrated again.

About translation quality

Translations are produced by AI. They are designed to read naturally, but they are not reviewed by a human translator and we do not guarantee accuracy. For important or sensitive articles, have a fluent speaker check the translated text.

Common questions

Do I need a different QR code for each language?

No. Every language uses the issue's existing QR code and reader link.

Can I add more languages than these five?

Not yet. English, Spanish, French, German and Russian are the languages available today.

Does adding a language change my original edition?

No. The original text and narration are kept unchanged.
